Atorvastatin Tablet

Atorvastatin Tablets IP is an effective medication that is used with a proper diet to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. Belonging to a group of drugs known as “statins,” Atorvastatin works by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. Lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol decreases the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and heart disease. 

Additionally, eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet) and other lifestyle changes may help this medication work better, including losing weight (if overweight), stopping smoking, and exercising. 

While consuming this medication, the patient should take some precautions to see changes or effectiveness in a shorter time.

Directions for Using Atorvastatin

Make sure to read the patient information leaflet if available from your pharmacist. Before taking atorvastatin clear all the doubts and questions if you have, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Generally, the dosage of this medication depends on the medical condition of the patient, response to treatment, age, and other medications the patient is taking.

Furthermore, avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit can increase the amount of this medication in your bloodstream. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Possible Side-effects of Atorvastatin

While taking Atorvastatin the patient may experience some side effects too that are temporary and mild, usually. Tell the doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

1. Diarrhea,
2. Heartburn,
3. Joint pain,
4. Memory loss,
5. Confusion, etc.

If Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at a regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets
