Z-tel-H 80 tablet contains Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide.
Telmisartan is an anti-hypertensive drug, act as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It inhibits the action of angiotensin II on vascular smooth muscle which reduce the arterial blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic which prevent the body to absorb salt that causes fluid retention.
Indication
• High rate of blood pressure
Dosage : Once a day
Mechanism of action
Z-tel -H 80 tablet is a combination drug of antihypertensive and diuretic.
Telmisartan blocks the actions of angiotensin II by binding it to the receptor contains vasoconstrictor and aldosteronesecreting effects. It is having greater closeness for AT 2 receptors.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic which acts on renal tubular electrolyte reabsorption. It increase the excretion of sodium and chloride ions. It also increase the secretion of aldosterone secretion, increases in urinary potassium loss, and decreases the serum potassium.
Pharmacology
• Telmisartan : Absorption
After oral administration the drug is well distributed into the body. Presence of food decreases the bioavailability of the drug.
Distribution
The volume of distribution of the drug is 500 L. About 99.5%of the drug is bound to plasma protein. The drug is metabolized by the enzyme cytochrome P 450.
Excretion
The drug is excreted in unchanged from in urine and feces.
• Hydrochlorothiazide: Absorption
After oral administration about 50 – 60% of the drug gets absorbed.
Distribution
About 67.9% of the drug is bound to plasma protein.
Excretion
The drug follows renal excretion.
